Doug Bates

Doug Bates got his start in the courier Industry as a bike messenger while still a student at Columbia University. Joining Sprint Messenger Service as dispatcher, he rose to General Manager of the company. He began working at Orbit/LightSpeed as a Division Manager in 1989, responsible for multiple offices processing over 2000 deliveries a day. In 1995 when Orbit/LightSpeed became part of the CD&L IPO, Doug became the Director of Operations for CD&L’s New York City division. He oversaw the consolidation of five companies into a single entity during the ensuing 5 years. He was a co-founder of LightSpeed in February 2002.
